Over the years of working with clients I am often asked about the many “rules” of style. For example…
- Is it okay to mix prints?
- Can I wear white after Labor Day?
- Should my belt match my shoes?
- Should I tuck my shirt half in or all the way in?
The list of rules and questions can go on and on so I try and remind my clients, in the words of Gianni Versace “Don’t be into trends…you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.” Forget about the rules and look for what makes you feel authentic, what makes you feel like your best self, and what makes you feel confident. Be fearless with your style. You do you!
Find pieces that you feel authentic in. If you love stripes or patterns but worry they won’t be flattering? Find a print or pattern you love and wear them anyway. Maybe it’s as simple as finding a bright color you love. Believe me when I tell you that when you wear what you love your confidence will shine through and you will look amazing.
What are you wearing when you feel like you’re showing up as your best self? Is it a certain color? A fabric you love? You could also try a classic pieces with a twist. Think of a crisp button down but in a color you love, a classic blazer or cardigan with a bold pattern or print, or maybe an accessory in an unexpected animal print or color.
If you are waiting to wear something until you lose “x” pounds or until you’re a size “y.” I am here to tell you to stop waiting. Style is not a size and no matter what the scale says or what the size is on your clothes you can be stylish. You deserve to look good, feel good, and walk out the door with confidence. You can make your own rules. All you have to do is decide you are worth the investment and be fearless with your style.
Wear white after Labor Day, mix prints, try bold colors, invest in essentials, try a French tuck, or not. Be fearless with your style.
