That Time I Almost Didn’t Hit Send…

A few months ago, I sat at my computer, hesitating to hit the send button. I was about to do something I despise when others do it to me—send a cold pitch on LinkedIn. I had crafted a short message and was about to hit send to a TV producer I didn’t know. I was “pitching” myself for a TV segment. I stared at that message for way too long.

I’m a wardrobe stylist, not a salesperson. I really dislike spammy cold DMs, and I didn’t want to be that person.
But deep down, I also knew something else:

You Don’t Get What You Don’t Ask For

Every week, I talk about how small shifts in your wardrobe can build confidence. Because style is not just about clothes—style and your clothes are a tool for self-marketing. You are the package. And the choices you make every day as you get dressed either build confidence or chip away at it.

Confidence doesn’t always come from a total makeover.
Sometimes it looks like a new top, pair of slacks, a blouse or an accessory.
Sometimes it looks like hitting send or doing the thing that scares you most.

What Happened After I Hit Send on That Cold Message?

The TV producer replied.
I got the segment.

But here’s the thing most people don’t talk about:
Even after I got the “yes,” I was still nervous.

Fear crept in and the self-doubt came rushing forward:
“What were you thinking?”
“How are you going to do this?”
“Who are you to do this?”

I had to pause.
Take a breath.
And remind myself:

  • I am the expert.

  • I do know my stuff.

  • I have earned the right to be here.

From Fear to Excitement: Choosing Gratitude Instead

I swapped the fear for excitement and grounded myself in gratitude.

The TV segment on Good Morning Texas went great. But the real win?

The real win was the moment I chose confidence and courage—even when I didn’t feel 100% ready.

3 Things to Remember When Fear Creeps In

1. Confidence Doesn’t Mean You’re Never Scared

Whether you are going after a raise, pitching yourself for media, or showing up for a major meeting—you might feel fear. That’s okay. Do it anyway. Wear your favorite power outfit and step forward with purpose.

2. You Are the Expert of Your Own Story

You don’t need permission to own your voice, your message, or your style. You did the work, you earned the seat at the table. Don’t let self-doubt keep you standing at the door.

3. Gratitude Can Shift Your Entire Energy

When you move from fear to gratitude, your mindset shifts. Your energy shifts. And people notice. The way you carry yourself changes everything.
