Creating a wardrobe you love does not require being a fashionista, following trends, or spending a lot of money. By making small shifts, you can transform the clothes in your closet into a wardrobe that reflects your style and makes you feel confident. You can take small steps, and here are my top five tips to get started:
1. Assess Your Wardrobe
Take time to evaluate what you wore and didn’t wear over the past year. Ask yourself:
-What items did I reach for repeatedly?
–Which pieces stayed on the hanger?
-Why did I avoid wearing certain items? (Fit? Color? Comfort?)
These simple questions will help you identify the staples you love as well as the pieces that are no longer working for you.
2. Let Go of What’s Not Working
Letting go does not have to be overwhelming. You also don’t have to take everything out of your closet. You can start with one small section or category. Think small shifts. If you are hesitant to part with certain pieces, try the 30-60-90 day Plan and try putting those items aside. Place these items in another room and check back after 30, 60, and 90 days. If they don’t fit, feel authentic, and/or if you haven’t missed them, it is time to bless and release.
3. Add More of What You Love
Think about the pieces you feel confident in. Do you gravitate toward certain styles, fabrics, or colors? Incorporate more of these into your wardrobe. Make a list of what you love and want more of. Commit to setting a budget and buying new pieces on a monthly or quarterly basis. Recently, I conducted a poll in my Instagram stories, and 80% of respondents admitted they weren’t wearing clothes that made them feel confident. Let’s change that!
4. Add One Thing
Sometimes, one small addition, a small shift, can have a significant impact. Consider:
-Adding an accessory like a belt, scarf, statement jewelry, fun socks or shoes.
-Wearing a color you love at least once a week.
-Finding and adding a piece that makes you smile, tells a story, or holds a special memory.
5. Try My No-Legging (Sweats) Challenge
Even if you are not leaving the house and have nowhere to go, get dressed in “real” clothes. Put on an outfit you feel good in that gives you confidence, and see how it changes your day. You may find you are more motivated, more productive, and feel better overall. It’s a slight shift that can lead to big results.
Transforming your wardrobe is a journey, not a sprint. By making small shifts, thoughtful choices, and focusing on what makes you feel good, you can build a collection of clothes that look great and empower you to show up authentically, on brand, and with confidence.
